# Custom Dashboards

### **Why Use Custom Dashboards?**

Tive's **Custom Dashboards** provide a flexible and powerful way to analyze shipment data based on your specific business needs. It is available on our **Premium Tier.** Different from [Summary Analytics](https://support.tive.com/tive-summary-analytics?hsLang=en-us), which offers a pre-configured overview of trends, **Custom Dashboards** allow you to create personalized dashboards by creating relevant metrics, applying filters to drill down into specific areas, and sharing dashboards with relevant stakeholders. Click [here](https://app.storylane.io/demo/izd2v6aw9vja?embed=inline) to take a tour of our Custom Dashboards.

With **Custom Dashboards**, you can:

- **Track key performance indicators (KPIs)** that matter most to your supply chain.
- **Compare different carriers and transport modes** to optimize logistics by selecting the best-performing partners.
- **Monitor compliance with SOPs** by analyzing ground truth data about what happened during a shipment.
- **Collaborate** with colleagues on supply chain performance by sharing dashboards to spark conversation.

### **How to Set Up & Use Custom Dashboards**

#### **Create Metrics**

1. Before creating a dashboard, we recommend creating the metrics you will want to add to that dashboard. Under **Dashboards**, select **Metrics**.
2. Click on **Create A New Metric**
3. Start building your **Metric** by adding

- **Property:** These are the **core elements** you can select to analyze and filter further in a metric. Property options cover data about **shipments**, **shipment legs, and alerts**. To learn more about the available properties, see the next section in this article.
- **Aggregation**: Allows you to **apply calculations** to selected properties to get the insights you need. Keep in mind that the available calculations depend on the selected property.
- **Group By**: Organizes data into categories based on the selected fields. Keep in mind that grouping data by Carrier, Alert Type, and Mode only works on Shipment Leg & Alert properties.

### **Metric Properties**

#### **Shipment Properties**

- Shipment Duration: Time spent "in transit" — from when the shipment leaves the origin to when it arrives at the destination geofence.
- Shipment Departure Delay: How late the shipment leaves compared to the scheduled departure time.
- Shipment Arrival Delay: How late the shipment arrives compared to the scheduled arrival time.
- Shipment Prolonged Stop Delay: The duration of any prolonged stop alerts that were triggered during transit. Keep in mind that you must configure these alerts.
- Shipment Temperature: The average temperature during the selected stage (e.g., in transit, at origin, or destination) in your metric filters.
- Shipment Probe Temperature: Same as above, but based on readings from temperature probes.
- Shipment Humidity: Average humidity levels during the selected shipment stage.

***Note:** Grouping by Carrier, Alert Type, and Mode will not work on **shipment** properties because these characteristics are associated with a shipment **leg.** To use these grouping options, select the **comparable metric** on the shipment leg level.*

#### **Shipment Leg Properties**

- Shipment Leg Duration: Time spent in transit between two specific points (leg origin to leg destination).
- Shipment Leg Departure Delay: How late a shipment leg starts compared to its scheduled departure time.
- Shipment Leg Arrival Delay: How late a shipment leg ends compared to its scheduled arrival time.
- Shipment Leg Prolonged Stop Delay: Similar to shipment prolonged stop delay, but specific to a leg.
- Shipment Leg Temperature: Temperature during a specific leg of the journey.
- Shipment Leg Probe Temperature: Probe-measured temperature during a specific leg.
- Shipment Leg Humidity: Humidity during a specific leg.

***Note:** Remember that the aggregation and group by options will change based on the property that you select. It is best practice to select the property before you select the aggregation and group by fields.*

#### **Alert Properties**

- Alerts: Total number of alerts triggered (e.g., temperature, ETA, arrival) based on selected filters.
- Alerts Average: The average number of alerts per shipment, only including shipments that had at least one alert.
- Alert Resolution Time: How long it takes to resolve an alert, from the time it’s triggered to when the sensor levels are back in range. This time does not take into account when an alert is manually resolved in the platform.

***Note:**Properties applied to multi-device shipments follow these aggregation rules:*

- **Average measurements**: Calculated as the average across all devices.
- **Minimum measurements**: Determined as the lowest recorded value among all devices.
- **Maximum measurements**: Determined as the highest recorded value among all devices.
- **Counts**: Summed across all devices when counting the number of records.

### **Building Custom Dashboards with Metrics**

Metrics are meant to be added to dashboards that answer specific questions or monitor certain parts of your supply chain. To start adding metrics to Custom Dashboards:

1. Navigate to **Analytics** in the Tive platform navigation bar and click on **Dashboards**.
2. Under **Dashboards**, select **Create New Dashboard** to begin building your custom view.
3. **Choosing Metrics:** Add the metrics you’ve created to start building your dashboard.
4. **Apply Filters:** Narrow results by using a specific **date range.**

***Tip:** We recommend filtering on shipment data cleaning with the “Exclude Invalid Shipments” toggle. Read more about Tive’s shipment cleaning below.*

      5. **Review Your Data:** Once your metrics are selected and the data range is specified, you can start evaluating your data.

### **Exclude Invalid Shipments Toggle**

Use Tive’s shipment cleaning algorithm to filter out shipments that could skew your metrics in misleading ways. This algorithm removes shipments that never moved, departed from somewhere other than the shipment origin, missed a leg transition, or never arrived at the shipment destination.

### **Edit, Duplicate & Reorder Metrics**

Once your dashboard has been set up, you can **edit** your metrics by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner of an individual metric:

Using the toggle on the upper right corner of your dashboard, you can further customize the dashboard to **Reorder & Duplicate your Metrics:**

**![](https://support.tive.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Rich%20Text%20Pasting/google-1744982908058.png?width=425&height=293&name=google-1744982908058.png)**

### **Dashboard Access Settings**

After setting up your dashboard, you can control who can view and interact with it. You can do this by clicking on the **Access Settings** in the top right corner. If you own a dashboard, you can grant viewing access to specific users or all users within selected accounts you're part of.  When a dashboard is shared with someone, they will only see data for accounts that they have access to, so if they have more restrictive permissions than you, their view and data may be different. For example, if a metric only includes data from Account A but the viewer does not have access, the metric will appear blank for them. Once you’ve applied the preferred configuration, save the settings.

### **Dashboard Templates**

If you are stuck or looking for inspiration on what to include in your dashboards, you can use the templates provided by our team to get started. Feel free to duplicate and then customize these dashboards by editing metrics for your use case.

### **Key Points to Know**

- **Completed Shipments Only:** Data is based on shipments that have been fully completed.
- **Permissions-Based Access:** Users can only view shipments from accounts they have permission to access, ensuring data security.
- **Data Updates Every 6 Hours:** The dashboard refreshes every 6 hours for dynamic and scalable metric tracking.

### **Best Practices for Custom Dashboards**

**Monitor Cold Chain Compliance by Carrier**

- Track **temperature**, **humidity**, and **alerts** by **carrier** to identify risks in cold chain performance.

**Analyze On-Time Performance by Lane**

- Use **shipment duration**, **departure delay**, and **arrival delay** metrics for key **lanes** to find where delays happen.

**Analyze In-Transit Issues**

- Set the shipment stage filter metrics to in **transit** to zero in on what type of alerts are occurring between origin and destination.

 **Improve Alert Response Procedures**

- Track **alert resolution time** by lane and alert type to ensure issues are being handled quickly and effectively, and take action where they aren’t.
