Firmware Update - Step-by-Step Guide
Why Update Firmware
Keeping your devices on the latest firmware ensures optimal performance and reliability. Updating regularly helps reduce downtime, streamline device management, and simplify large-scale inventory updates. Here’s why it matters:
- No more manual updates: Skip the back-and-forth with support. Update your device firmware in minutes to save time.
- Fast, inventory-wide updates: Push updates across your entire device inventory with a single click, minimizing downtime.
- Easy to use: A simple, intuitive interface makes it easy for any admin to manage updates.
- Simplify device management: Free up your teams to focus on core tasks, not technical support.
How It Works
Follow these steps to update your devices’ firmware on platform.tive.com:
- Accessing the Feature:
- Sign in to an admin account on platform.tive.com.
- Navigate to the "Trackers" page from the main menu.
- Look for a warning at the top of the tracker list indicating devices with available firmware updates.
- Using the Feature:
- To update all devices at once, click the "Update All" button on the "Trackers" page for the easiest and fastest way to ensure your entire inventory is running the latest firmware.
- For individual device updates, select a device from the tracker list, go to the "Details" tab, and initiate the update from there.
- Firmware updates are typically installed quickly with very little impact on the device battery. However, you have the option to push updates only to devices that are not attached to in-transit shipments to ensure that battery life is not impacted for your in-transit trackers.
Tip: You can view our firmware release notes here, which contain details about the new features and bug fixes included in each release.
-
- After initiating the update for one or more of your devices, each device will update its firmware the next time it connects to the platform. Depending on the transmission interval you have set, this can take up to 24 hours.
- Once the device has received the firmware update, its firmware status will change from “Update Pending” to “Up to Date”.
