Auto-Complete Delay

Why Use Auto-Complete Delay?

Oftentimes, there is a time gap between when a shipment enters a destination geofence and has been unloaded or delivered. If there is a delay at the dock, for example, the driver may sit in the lot for several hours until a space opens. Data collected from the Tive sensor during this time is still critical to monitor the load, so many of our customers don’t want a shipment to complete right when it enters the destination geofence. This ensures that alerts and reports will function as desired.

The Auto-Complete Delay completes shipments a specified amount of time after the shipment enters the final leg destination. If no geofence for the destination exists, we use the tracker's location confidence radius plus a small buffer. This typically ranges from 1-5 km, around 1 km for GPS/WiFi, and about 5 km for cellular. Auto-complete is configurable at the sub-account level within organization settings.

How It Works

  1. Timer Activation: The auto-complete timer starts when a shipment enters the delivery address in the final shipment leg.
  2. Customizable Delay: Users can configure the timer to a delay ranging from 1 hour up to two weeks, depending on the specific needs of their organization.
  3. Shipment Completion: If the shipment enters the delivery geofence, it will be marked as completed after the shipment completion delay time is reached.

Key Points to Know

  • The Auto-Complete Timer operates at a sub-account level and is not shipment-specific.
  • The timer starts when the shipment enters the delivery geofence, ensuring shipments are automatically completed after a set period.
  • Auto-Complete still works even if intermediate leg stops are missed.

Best Practices

  • Determine an Optimal Timer Duration: Analyze your shipment patterns and set the auto-complete timer based on typical delivery times to avoid unnecessary delays or premature completion. If you're unsure, the default setting is 24 hours.
