Tracker Configuration
Why Use Tracker Configurations
Tracker configurations in the Tive Platform are a simple, time-saving way to manage how your Tive devices operate. Rather than manually updating each tracker one by one, you can apply configurations in bulk. Configurations control settings such as transmission intervals, measurement intervals, GPS, Bluetooth, and power button functionality - all remotely. Using configurations helps:
- Save time by applying settings to multiple (or all) trackers at once
- Ensure consistent setup across all devices
- Improve efficiency and reduce manual errors
How It Works
The Tracker Configurations page allows you to create and manage named configurations for your account. All trackers that will be assigned to that account will get the default configuration.
From this page, you can:
- View a list of all configurations in your account
- See how many devices are using each configuration
- Create new configurations
- Edit, delete, or set them as default using the menu options (available for users with the correct permissions)
Understanding Tive Tracker Intervals
Intervals are essential settings, managed via configurations, that define how often your tracker measures and transmits data.
- Transmission Interval: This is the frequency with which the tracker connects to a network to upload its data onto the Tive platform.
- Measurement Interval: This refers to how often the tracker activates its sensors to measure and store data to the tracker.
- If a measurement is taken and the tracker cannot connect to GPS or wifi, the record will be missing location information unless the measurement happens at the same time as a transmission. This is because our only other way to detect location is via cell triangulation, which only happens during transmissions.
- The measurement interval must always be equal to or less than the transmission interval. This ensures that all collected data can be transmitted during each connection.
Note: If the tracker is attached to a shipment with temperature, humidity, light, or shock alerts configured, the tracker will constantly check if the alert threshold has been passed and transmission immediately so you can respond to your shipment issues in real time.

Creating Tracker Configurations:
- Go to Trackers > Configuration
- Click “Create New Configuration.”
- Give it a name (required)
- Choose a transmission interval (how often the device uploads data)
- Choose a measurement interval (how often the device collects sensor data)
- Enable/Disable GPS
- Click Create once everything is filled in
Editing / Deleting Tracker Configurations
To edit or delete an existing configuration, simply click on the three dots on your right and then click on “Edit” or “Delete”
Attaching Tracker Configurations to Trackers
To attach an existing configuration to devices go to Trackers > Select Trackers > Attach New Configuration
Updating Tracker Configurations on a device level
You can also attach an existing configuration to an individual tracker or manually update the configuration settings already applied. To do that, click into an individual tracker from the trackers list and go to the settings tab.
To detach the configuration, click on remove.
Best Practices
- Use configurations to avoid repetitive, manual setup of tracker settings
- Name configurations clearly to match their intended use
- Set a default configuration that reflects your most common shipment requirements
