Cargo theft is a common concern among numerous shippers from various industries. With Tive Solo devices, our clients are able to detect and prevent the theft of cargo and assets, by learning when and where their shipment is exposed to light. Our light sensor allows the trackers to support the door close/door open feature by measuring the amount of natural daylight coming into the room.
Located at the front of the device, the highly sensitive light sensor detects all changes in ambient light levels. These changes are captured by the tracker, along with the current location, then sent to the Platform, and marked as an event/alert (which you will receive an email/SMS about).
For best results, make sure that the sensor is not covered during tracker placement.
The default threshold for light alerts to be triggered is 25 Lux. As soon as the ambient light present surpasses the 25Lux threshold, an immediate transmission will be triggered. Spikes above 25 Lux often indicate an open package/door. This value also allows us to detect when the package/door is closed and the assets are sitting in darkness if the light level falls below 25 Lux.
Our team can configure your desired threshold based on your preference (contact Tive Client Support team
Light will fluctuate based on time of day if your shipment is exposed to the outdoors. Sudden fluctuations in light may indicate that a shipment has been moved into or out of a dark container. Below are some examples of illuminance:
Illuminance Level (in lux) | Examples |
0 - 10 | Pitch black |
11-50 | Very dark |
51 - 200 | Indoor home lighting |
201 - 400 | Indoor office lighting |
1000 - 5000 | Outdoor overcast day |
10000 - 25000 | Full daylight (not direct sun) |
>32000 | Direct sunlight |
